reddit-tales:

Parents, what’s the most absurd thing you’ve found on your kid’s social media?

My step son is 7. Found a bunch of searches for:

Dominicans with no hands and feet.

Dominicans with no heads.

Dominican chests.

Dominican torsos.

Dominican legs.

Dominicans in stores.

Dominicans for sale.

Silver Dominicans.

Black Dominicans.

White Dominicans.

I was at a loss of how to bring it up to him. Thankfully, the next day we were in a clothing store and he asked me why Dominicans don’t have hands or heads, then why there are so many different colored Dominicans. I remembered the internet searches and became a little upset. I told him to be quiet because what he was saying could be taken offensively by Dominican people. He then got frustrated and loudly said “Dominicans aren’t people” as he pointed to a statue next to us.

I breathed a sigh of relief and said “Mannequins”.

BTS has unified the world. The thing is, they’re waving the ‘WINGS’ flag of BTS internationally.

Immediately after the release of their second full length album ‘WINGS’ on the past 10th, BTS, who has just officially begun their comeback activities, rose to number 1 on the leading Korean music charts with their title song ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ and placed all of the tracks from their album in the top ranks.

This isn’t only happening in Korea. Up to this point, they’ve achieved the first place spot tens of times. Anywhere in the world where you’re able to listen to BTS’ songs, they confidently plant their first place flag.

These are the records that BTS has set in the past four days with ‘WINGS.’ We’ve organized it into a so-called ‘BTS MAP.’

Can you believe Wonder Woman 2017 was written by an openly gay man, directed by a woman, staring a kickass woman surrounded by other ethnically diverse kickass women, with Chris Pine as the love interest who was not weak, racist, or sexist at all, also with diverse and interesting male sidekicks, and the villain who was defeated with the power of love because love is strength not weakness. Like damn how did we get so lucky?

Because I am feeling ridiculously fannish about Wonder Woman at the moment, and because I am a nerd with too much time on her hands on a Sunday evening, here are a few interesting tidbits for you taken from the Wonder Woman IMDB page (with a little help from Wikipedia).

There are 17 named Amazons in the credits (plus 15 actresses listed as guards, warriors, or townspeople.)  11 of the 17 named characters have their ages listed.

Average age = 41.4 years

Oldest Amazon = 57 years

Youngest Amazon = 26 years

7 Amazons played by actresses 40 or older

Connie Nielsen (Hippolyta) and Robin Wright (Antiope) are both 51 years old.

Of the 32 women listed as playing Amazons in the credits, half if not more are women of color (not all the actresses had photos on their page).

These women are of all shapes and sizes.  There are stuntwomen, personal trainers and at least one boxer.

tl;dr = when you put women in charge of making a movie about a female superhero and the culture in which she is raised, you get something more realistic than 85% of the movies out there - superhero related or not.
